At the invitation of Archbishop Gervais, many priests and pastoral associates of the English sector of the archdiocese gathered on Wed., Sept. 22/04 for a day of dialogue and reflection about the future of adult faith formation. Archbishop Gervais opened the day with a passionate presentation about the importance of supporting an ongoing and sustainable opportunity for people to grow and mature in faith. He highlighted the importance of the ongoing support of clergy and pastoral associates in making this possible. |
The day was co-facilitated by Msgr Patrick Powers, vicar general, and Mrs. Carol Kuzmochka, co-ordinator of adult faith development for the English sector. Participants received an overview of all that has taken place over the past year and a proposal for a new segment of faith formation sessions. The highpoint of the day was a rich and stirring panel presentation by Mr. Matt Dineen, a participant in the adult faith development process, Mrs. Marilyn Olsen, a certificate participant, and Sr. Miriam Martin, a pastoral accompanier. Each shared the rich experience of their participation, their strong support for the adult faith formation series, and their hopes for continued growth.
Priests and pastoral associates offered helpful feedback about how the series may be strengthened with more PR, and an emphasis that the sessions are for everyone. The need to continue to look at specific needs for ministry formation in the parish community as well as the potential for developing more local formation opportunities were emphasized.
"Putting Out Into The Deep!" A series for all who wish to deepen their faith by responding to the question, "What does it mean for me to be a catholic in the world today?" will begin a new segment on Sat., Oct. 30th/04. All are welcome!
