PASTORAL APPOINTMENTS
ENGLISH SECTOR OF THE ARCHDIOCESE
The Most Reverend Marcel Gervais, Archbishop of Ottawa, is pleased to announce the following pastoral appointments.
Pastors and parish administrators
Fr. Stephen Amesse, currently associate pastor at Saint Patricks Basilica, Ottawa, is appointed pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, Stittsville, for a six year term. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Thomas Bluger, currently on a leave of absence, is appointed pastor of St. Isidore Parish, Kanata, for a six year term. This appointment is effective December 1, 2000.
Fr. Corbin Eddy, current pastor of Saint Basils Parish, Ottawa, is being relieved of his diocesan appointments in order to become a professor and a member of the formation team at St. Marys Seminary University, in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. This will be effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Herman Falke, S.C.J., pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Osgoode, and of St. Brigids Parish, Manotick, is reappointed to these parishes for one year, effective September 3, 2000.
Fr. Daniel Hawkins, M.S.F., pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish, Nepean, is reappointed pastor for a three year term, effective September 3, 2000.
Fr. Dennis Hayes, currently working full-time in formation with the Companions of the Cross, is appointed administrator of Holy Family Community, Ottawa, effective July 1, 2000. In the coming year, Fr. Hayes will work closely with Fr. Ross Finlan, pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Ottawa, toward the reunification of Holy Family Community with Holy Cross Parish.
Fr. Bill Hunt, currently pastor of Saint Marys Parish, Ottawa, is appointed pastor of St. Monicas Parish, Nepean, for a six year term. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Lorne T. McDonald, O.M.I., currently ministering in Alberta, is appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Ottawa, for a one year term. His appointment is effective December 15, 2000.
Fr. Donald McLellan, a priest of the Archdiocese of Gatineau-Hull and current pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Ottawa, has informed the Archbishop of his intention to leave the Archdiocese on July 1, 2000. On behalf of the people to whom he has ministered, we thank him for his years of service in Ottawa.
Fr. Joe Muldoon, current pastor of Saint John the Apostle Parish, Nepean, is appointed pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, Gloucester, for a six year term. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Arthur Ockwood, M.S.F., current pastor of Saint Monicas Parish, Nepean, will be retiring from active ministry effective July 1, 2000. Fr. Ockwood will continue to assist in Ottawa-area parishes. Archbishop Gervais is very grateful to Fr. Ockwood and to his religious community, the Missionaries of the Holy Family, for his many years of dedicated service in the Archdiocese of Ottawa.
Fr. Charles Orchard, current pastor of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, Ottawa, is appointed pastor of St. Marys Parish, Ottawa. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. George Sammut, currently an associate pastor in Toronto, is appointed pastor of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, Ottawa. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Frank Scott, current pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, Stittsville, is appointed pastor of Saint John the Apostle Parish, Nepean, for a six year term. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Jose Serafin, a Missionary of Guadelupe, is appointed pastor of Assumption Parish, Vanier, and chaplain of the Chinese community for a six year term. Fr. Serafin will be arriving in the fall. Interim arrangements for the pastoral care of Assumption Parish and the Chinese community are currently being finalized.
Fr. Bosco Wong, current pastor of Assumption Parish, Vanier, is appointed pastor of St. Basils Parish, Ottawa, for a six year term. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Michael Wright, current pastor of St. Isidore Parish, Kanata, is appointed pastor of Saint Margaret Mary Parish, Ottawa, and Roman Catholic chaplain at Carleton University for a six year term. His appointment is effective December 1, 2000.
Associate Pastors
Fr. Joven Beltran, currently associate pastor at Our Lady of Fatima, Ottawa, is appointed associate pastor at Saint Patricks Parish (Fallowfield), Nepean. His appointment is effective December 1, 2000.
Fr. Terence Donohue, ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 2000, is appointed associate pastor at Saint Marys Parish, Ottawa. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Brian Hennessey, currently associate pastor at St. Marys Parish, Ottawa, is appointed associate pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Ottawa. This appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Jessimar Tapia, ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 2000, is appointed associate pastor at Saint Patricks Basilica, Ottawa. His appointment is effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Joseph Vayalil, current administrator of Good Shepherd Parish, Gloucester, is appointed associate pastor of Annunciation of the Lord Parish, Gloucester, effective July 1, 2000. In 2001, he will participate in the February term sabbatical program at the Vatican II Institute, in Menlo Park, California.
Other appointments
Fr. Jeffrey Shannon, currently administrator of the Holy Family Community, is appointed to full- time ministry with the Companions of the Cross, effective July 1, 2000.
Fr. Mark Slatter will be continuing his doctoral studies in Ottawa, as well as his work with the Courage ministry and part-time ministry at Saint Patricks Basilica, Ottawa.
Internships
Mr. Geoffrey Kerslake, a seminarian of the Archdiocese of Ottawa, is appointed pastoral intern at Holy Redeemer Parish, Kanata. His appointment is for one academic year and is effective September 5, 2000.
Mr. Michael Ruddick, a seminarian of the Archdiocese of Ottawa, is appointed pastoral intern at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Ottawa. His appointment is for one academic year and is effective September 5, 2000.
Mr. Fernando Suarez, a seminarian with the Companions of the Cross, is appointed pastoral intern at St. Maurice Parish, Nepean. His appointment is for one academic year and is effective September 5, 2000.
Appointments for the French Sector of the Archdiocese will be announced shortly.
