LIAISON ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
OFFICE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE
ARCHDIOCESE OF OTTAWA

My name is John Dorner and I see my role as being of service to all devoted to serving God as stewards of creation. We work together, as the Body of Christ, to advance attitudes and actions that help heal our Sacred Earth and provide relief to those harmed by environmental degradation, especially the poor.

In my role as liaison for environmental stewardship, I am present to&

  • inform you of Catholic social teachings related to environmental stewardship and social justice;
  • inform you of the ways our Church is working with other faith communities on finding common ground for the common good as it pertains to the environment;
  • inform you of practical ways that you can act as a steward of creation;
  • inform you of upcoming events that will respond to your concerns and hopes for building a sustainable future, heeding Gods call to stewardship;
  • support you and others who are informed persons working to develop and implement environmental initiatives within the parish, the local community and the world at large;
  • inform you of ways that your parish can reduce energy consumption and where grants are available to assist with energy audits and/or retrofits dedicated to energy reduction.
  • inform you of ways that we can support our children and youth so that their anxieties about their future are replaced by hope and collective action by adults and youth;
  • help arrange for people from other parishes and faith groups to speak to you about their efforts so that we can learn from one another. Likewise, I can help arrange for members of your parish to speak to other parishes and faith groups about your efforts so that we can learn from one another;
  • bring forth an outline of ways your parish community can document its record of environmental stewardship, and how the efforts of your parish may be affirmed through the achievement of a Greening Sacred Spaces Award given by the interfaith group, Faith and the Common Good;
  • listen to you, and hear your concerns, your questions, and your interests as you consider how you can do your best as a person who appreciates the gifts God has entrusted to us for our benefit and the benefit of future generations;
  • be your voice as an advocate, representing our diocese and the Catholic community, on matters related to environmental stewardship and social justice.

I invite you to contact me by telephone (613-738-5025, ext 223) or by email: [email protected]
